The first day of training focused on the key considerations that should be addressed before drafting a report. These included understanding the purpose of the report, which defines the main reason for writing it: identifying the audience or reader, which is who the report is intended for and considering the context, which provides an understanding of the situation or circumstances surrounding the report. The training also covered the standard structure of a report, Starting from the title to the Annex. The session highlighted the importance of clearly defining these elements to ensure that reports are well-structured, relevant, and effectively communicate their intended message.

The first module of this training focused on explaining why report writing is essential to any work and the basic framework of thinking we needed to adopt. Before writing any report, we need to analyze the purpose of the report, the context in which the reported activities are occurring, and the audience who will read it. In the second module, we gained more detailed information on the basic structural components of any report. We learned the importance of executive summaries and to discern the difference between the purpose of the activity and the purpose of producing a report.

The session included interactive lectures that allowed for free discussions, hands-on exercises to stimulate deeper thinking and apply our learnings to familiar scenarios and concluded with quizzes to evaluate our knowledge.

Today, we learned why report writing is important in our daily work and how it helps communicate information clearly. I understood that a good report is not just about describing what happened, but also about helping the reader make decisions or take action. We also discussed the key things to think about before writing a report, such as its purpose, who will read it, and the context behind it. Another topic we covered was the standard structure of a report and how organizing information properly makes it easier to understand. The session gave practical tips that I can apply when writing reports at work. Overall, it was a useful session that helped me better understand how to write clear and effective reports.
